The growth of electric rc helicopters is strong right now.  One of the factors is because of the improved battery, micro electronic technology, and motor that was not available a few years ago. Today, electric rc choppers have caught up with nitro rc choppers in terms of performance. Single rotor electric hobby grade helicopters which some hobbyists swore not to fly are not flying it. The noise electric choppers produce is increasingly attracting a number a number of funs. The electric motor is quite allowing the sound of rotor blades to be heard beating air molecules into submission. The larger rc helicopters such as the 600's and 700's have similar sounding turbine powered rc helis that makes them more popular and applicable to scale remote controlled helicopters. The convenience of electric choppers is not dealing with messy nitro goo, starters and glow drivers, engine starting and tuning hassles and shipping costs associated with fuel.

The transition in the hobby of rc choppers is the popularity of rc electric helicopters and planes over nitro rc helis. The flight times of electric choppers are equal or even longer compared to nitro and gas models. Some of the electric choppers get 15 to 20 minutes of flight times on a single battery charge. The toy rc helis and electric micro coaxial rc helis is an introduction to a whole new group of people to a wonderful hobby of rc helis.  The size spectrum for electric rc helicopters continues to be expanded. The small end of the spectrum consists of models like the E-flite's Blade mCX2 with rotor diameter of over 7 inches.

Get To The Electric RC Chopper!

There is nothing more fun than going outside and flying around electric RC helicopters. It is a great way to pass the time, and a fantastic hobby to enjoy. It may be an expensive hobby to have, but one of the most spectacular around. There are many different kinds of helicopters to choose from in many different stores. So it is always important to shop around, and more importantly you should be looking for reviews about which kinds are the best available. It should be stated that this is a very hands-on and mechanically inclined hobby as well. Requiring time and the ability to effectively work on a small engine.

The engine in an electric helicopter is a small turbine that runs on gasoline and operates exactly as a larger model will. The turbine will suck in gas and air and compress it. Then a spark will ignite this mixture creating thrust and lift causing your helicopter to fly. It takes more than filling it up with gas and letting it go. You must balance the blades before they are used because this will cause vibration in the shaft and may lead to severe damage in your chopper's internal components. Some new models have ready to fly blades that should still be checked before using them. In many aspects, it is very similar to having an actual helicopter because you should always make sure to check your RC out before using it. It is a good idea to keep a logbook of all activities, repairs, accidents, and upgrades. This helps to keep everything you need to know about your investment in one place. Controls are different between models, and some may be harder to maintain than others. This is where shopping around comes in to the picture.

The Walkera 4G3 is a micro class helicopter that is actually the smallest available on the market today, but do not sleep on this chopper because it has big personality. The manufacturer made a bold claim by stating it is a small-sized helicopter with all the functions of a bigger one. They did an excellent job of backing that statement up by putting out a quality product with a low price of two hundred dollars. For a rival, the Heli-Max Axe CP is another mini ready-to-fly model also effectively priced at two hundred dollars as well. This is a good choice for someone just starting this hobby. It is a lot of plastic and the rotors are wood, but this is not something that should deter you from buying this model. It is a great traveling chopper, and a good gift for a child.

Learn How to Fly RC Electric Helicopters

Choosing which of the rc electric helicopters to buy is the easy part. Once a person has their helicopter, they have to learn how to fly it. Flying it is the trickier part. A new helicopter owner should never take their rc 'copter out and fly it without knowing what to do. That is just asking for the helicopter to break and someone to get hurt.

There are several things that a person can do to learn how to fly rc helicopters easily and with no risk of damage to the helicopter or the pilot.

Flight simulators. Most people think of flight simulators as a game. But for owners of rc electric helicopters they can be a training and practice tool. Helicopters aren't easy to fly. They have their own particular quirks because of the rotors. A simulator lets the new pilot see all the drastic things that can happen, and learn to avoid them, before it happens to their brand new rc heli. A crash in a simulator hurts no one and doesn't total a new helicopter.
Practice bad conditions. Once the pilot feels comfortable flying around in the simulator during perfect conditions, ramp it up and make the conditions as bad as possible. Add in wind, rain, fly at night, keep the helicopter out of trim, or make them all happen at the same time. It is better to learn how to react to bad conditions in the simulator than it is when flying the real rc helicopters.
Fly the real thing. Once the pilot is comfortable with all flying conditions, it's time to move up to the real thing. But, with training gear, at least at first. The training gear will let the pilot get a feel for how their aircraft flies. The rc electric helicopters will react in the same ways that the simulators do, but each helicopter has its own personality and quirks.
Start small. Flying the real rc electric helicopters after the simulators is a good start, but don't get over confident. Take off the training tools and start with short flights. Watch how the helicopter reacts to every move on the control sticks, and how real world conditions affect it.
Learn precision. When the pilot is completely comfortable with their helicopter and can fly it fairly well, it's time to learn how to be precise. Set up a grid and practice landing the helicopter in one square, changing which square to land in every time. After the pilot can land in that square every time, make it smaller. After that, land on a small spot. Set up an obstacle course to fly around. Zig zag around poles. All these drills may seem time consuming and boring, but once they are done it's time to move on to trick flying. Read more »
