Bell RC Helicopter awards $2.5M contract to Placeteco

RC Helicopter: Placeteco Inc. will be designing and manufacturing the interior of the Bell Model 429 Global Ranger for Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Limited (BHTCL). Evaluated at $2.5M, this mandate is for a five-year period and should provide employment to some 50 workers. BHTCL is proud to maximize the talent of Qubec-based suppliers and further contribute to Qubec's economic and regional development. 

"Placeteco is a prime example of what BHTCL and the entire aerospace industry is in search of from its suppliers: a player who is able to deliver a final integrated product which will save us from having to manage several suppliers who are working on one and the same project. The scope of our international sales and tempo of our product development projects depend in part on this integration," stated Jacques St-Laurent, President, BHTCL.

Military role for K-Max helicopter

Lockheed Martin has teamed with Kaman Aerospace to market a manned/unmanned version of the K-Max external-lift helicopter for military applications, writes Graham Warwick. The single-seat, single-engine K-Max, which has a 2,720kg (6,000lb) lift capability, could be used to replace vulnerable ground convoys or to resupply special-operations forces. Developed for civil external-lift missions such as logging, the intermeshing-rotor K-Max has already demonstrated unmanned resupply operations under the US Marine Corps' Burro technology demonstration. Lockheed will act as prime contractor for the military manned/unmanned version, providing autonomous flight control, mission avionics, sensors and weapons."The air vehicle will be similar to what you see today," says Scott Green, vice-president business development for Lockheed Martin Systems Integration, who sees military requirements emerging for an unmanned helicopter able to lift heavy loads at high altitudes for the re-supply of forces in remote, difficult or dangerous areas.Popular Remote Control Helicopters

Toy RC helicopter found; continues to soar

A Cordova Park resident who lost a remote-controlled helicopter Wednesday recovered the craft Saturday afternoon about four blocks from his home. Leonard Swartz, who lives in the 800 block of Woodbine Drive, was flying his 17-inch, remote-controlled helicopter when it was caught a draft and disappeared during its maiden voyage near his home.Swartz and his neighbors searched for the helicopter in the area surrounding Bayou Boulevard and 12th Avenue, but did not find the aircraft.I check around Bonefish Grill and the woods near the airport, he said. Frankly, after I did all that searching, I gave up. I figured that I landed on a roof somewhere, and I would never see it again.However, after Swartz placed a lost-and-found ad in the Pensacola News Journal classified section, he got a call that his chopper had been recovered.
