Firefighters Host Annual BBQ

RC Games Helicopter: The Loma Prieta Fire & Rescue 44th annual barbecue attracted hundreds of people last Sunday. There was huge raffle, games, a zip line ride through the redwoord forest, an up-close look at the CDF rescue helicopter, and a full-on demonstration showing how fire and rescue would extract a driver from a wrecked car. Sunday's event was held on Old Loma Field, on Summit Rd. across from Loma Prieta Elementary School. The new gazebo was raffle headquarters, and food and games were held on the lawn. Tables set up between the nearby grove of towering redwoods made dining a cool respite from the bright day.

EPA utilizes helicopter to keep an eye on pollution

R C Helicopters: To respond rapidly to pollution accidents that might occur during the Lunar New Year holidays, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said yesterday it would utilize an unmanned remote-control helicopter to collect pollution samples from the sky 24 hours a day.

Lin Shi-chi (LX), a section chief at the EPA's Supervision, Evaluation and Dispute Resolution Department, told the Taipei Times that the EPA began using the helicopter to help measure damage from pollution in 1998. It has been employed in several significant pollution cases, including the oil spillage that occurred along Ilan's coastal areas last year. Technology - Lin said the technology was developed by the Center for Space and Remote Sensing at the National Central University.The remote-control helicopter it created is a little bigger than those commonly seen on the market, but it is equipped with photographic equipment.
