Bell RCÂ Helicopter awards $2.5M contract to Placeteco
RC Helicopter: Placeteco Inc. will be designing and manufacturing the interior of the Bell Model 429 Global Ranger for Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Limited (BHTCL). Evaluated at $2.5M, this mandate is for a five-year period and should provide employment to some 50 workers. BHTCL is proud to maximize the talent of Qubec-based suppliers and further contribute to Qubec's economic and regional development.Â
"Placeteco is a prime example of what BHTCL and the entire aerospace industry is in search of from its suppliers: a player who is able to deliver a final integrated product which will save us from having to manage several suppliers who are working on one and the same project. The scope of our international sales and tempo of our product development projects depend in part on this integration," stated Jacques St-Laurent, President, BHTCL.
Helicopter crew are recovered
RC Helicopters: Salvage crews recovered the remains Friday of three Navy crew members who had been missing and presumed dead since the crash of their helicopter off the Southern California coast last month, a Naval Air Forces spokesman said. Using an unmanned, remote-controlled submarine called the Deep Drone 8000, salvors aboard the Navy tugboat Sioux found the wreckage of the MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter late Thursday evening, Cmdr. Jack Hanzlik said. It was relatively intact, in 4,000 feet of water about 16 miles northeast of San Clemente Island, he said.The bodies of Lt. j.g. Laura Mankey, 26, Lt. Adam Dyer, 28, and Petty Officer 1st Class Cory Helman, 27, were carefully lifted to the surface. Then they were brought to San Diego Naval Medical Center for positive identification.
After sending a distress call, the Knighthawk – from North Island-based Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 23 – plunged into the ocean during a training mission at 2:30 p.m.
