For newcomers to Arathi Basin, the overall premise is simple: capture as many of the five bases (stables, lumber mill, blacksmith, gold mine, and farm) to acquire resources. The team to reach 1600 resources first wins.

Typically one player will offer up a quick strategy at the beginning as to which bases to try to capture first. Since each team is bucketed into three groups he may designate a base to each group (i.e. "Group 1 LM, Group 2 BS, Group 3 ST/GM").

A hunter's role is the same as any other class when capturing the base: ensure that the opposing team stays as far away from the flag as possible while a player on their own team (or the hunter himself) captures.

Once a base is successfully captured, however, the hunter's talents make him very effective in several roles

1. Protecting the base:
Turn on Viper Sting and lay down every trap available, followed immediately by a Flare Shot. This will quell any attempt by the opponent to capture the flag quickly (and will un-hide any rogues or druids who may be trying to sneak to the flag).
Call out incoming opponents. A hunter can handle a one-on-one fight for the flag, but if two or more are on the way some assistance is necessary.
Check out other bases with Eagle Eye to get information on other bases. Eagle Eye is a power that let's the hunter view a spot on the map within 50,000 yards. Eagle Eye will allow you to view at least one other base from every location except Gold Mine (since the location is subterranian.
2. Capturing a new base:
Use Aspect of the Beast and get close but hidden. The point is to determine how many opponents are guarding the base and to notify the rest of the team (i.e. "3 Vis at BS"). Hunters are the only class that can constantly monitor the location of opponents, use that talent to benefit the whole team.
If outnumbered wait for other players to show up. The damage a hunter can deal will help kill the defense, but if two or more players are guarding the flag then wait for some more teammates to lend a hand.
While one player captures the flag, send the other to the graveyard. Often the opponents will ressurect before the flag is captured. If the teammate (or the hunter) camps out at the graveyard they will prevent the opponent from reaching the flag before it's assaulted.
3. Recovering a base:
Try to surprise them. A recently assaulted flag is generally an area of chaos. Players from both sides are attacking and running around in an attempt to either kill the players or defend the base. This may be the hunter's chance to sneak near the flag and try to defend it ("defending" a flag refers to capturing a flag in contention and in danger of being lost to the opponent). If the hunter is discovered join in the battle but stay near the flag if the chance arises again.
Focus damage on healers. The opponent's healers generally hang out behind the battle lines. As a ranged DPS class a hunter can attack a healer (use Viper Sting, Wyvern Sting, and Scatter Shot to interrupt casting and drain mana) which may allow his teammates to kill off the opponents.
Know when it's a lost cause. If ten or eleven opponents are all fighting at the assaulted base chances are the base is lost. Make an early exit to try to find the under-defended base (and there will be one since only five other opponents would be around to defend their other bases.
Winning an Arathi Basin battle requires communication above all, but a hunter's unique talent sets allow him to contribute in ways that other can't, making him a valuable member of any battle.
