Rough landing for radio-controlled plane club
Radio Controlled Planes:Â A group of radio-controlled airplane enthusiasts uprooted from its home in Lodi three years ago has found itself grounded once again after neighbors complained about noise from the high-powered toys. The Tokay Radio Control Modelers club had been using a 10-acre parcel owned by San Joaquin County since last year to fly radio-controlled planes and helicopters after being displaced from Lodi's Pixley Park in 2004.
But the relocation didn't sit well with neighbors in the rural area southeast of Galt, who were more accustomed to birds chirping than whirring engines.Nina Edwards, who lives about a quarter-mile from the site, said the noise was "like a chain saw right outside your window."Her husband, Jim Edwards, compared it with another common landscaping tool: "It's like living next to a factory that tests weed eaters seven days a week." Other neighbors have complained about the noise.
