Spinning Around With Rc Helicopters

July 2nd, 2008

Flying any RC airplane is fun. This is one of the most thrilling hobbies adopted today both by young and old alike. But, it will be interesting to know that flying RC helicopters is even more fun than flying other model planes. Beginners love RC helicopters and so too the experts because they make you involved more than other planes. You have more controls to perform unlike other planes, where you find them fly and land as normal exercise.

Those who are diehard model airplane hobbyist have discovered, why it’s fun to fly RC helicopters and have no regrets flying them with no breaks in between, just to have more thrills. Today, these copters are not only maintained as a mere hobby but they are also used for professional activities like aerial photography, filming, remote surveillance and observation and so on. RC helicopters are made of carbon fiber, aluminum, foam, fiberglass and balsa wood.

Remote controlled helicopters are operated in the same way as the RC airplanes, only their maneuvers are more complicated and the copters can make great aerobatic moves midair. But, even if they seem thrilling, the RC helicopters are tougher to control than airplanes because of their controls. Their radio control device mostly comes in 6 channels and this calls for great concentration to avoid errors. Since the RC helicopters are more expensive than normal model planes and have these channels, there should be no room for error or this will result in greater losses in case they crash.

Gas Powered Model Helicopters Guide

Gas powered model helicopters are some of the most loved and flown models planes today. Both novices and experts love them to fly. But, these gas powered model helicopters are different from other helicopters and planes in many ways. In the first place, these helicopters are costlier than all the other model planes and helicopters. Then, you need some expertise and skill to assemble them, since they are involved with more bolts, bearings, metal and plastic, unlike the PVA and balsa wood used in other planes. But, this can be fun, especially if you would like to see your dream chopper come to life from the scratch. The other good thing about these gas helicopters is that they can make more and daring maneuvers, contributing with amazing aerobics. And with these qualities, they only prove that it is not easy to control them, especially if you are a beginner.

If you are thinking of flying a multi-channel gas powered RC helicopter, you are advised first to learn, how to fly with simpler controls planes. Multi-channel gas powered RC helicopters are difficult to control, since they can take hard dives and unplanned turns, if you are flying them in a windy weather. So, before you make an entry into the world of tougher gas RC helicopters, I suggest that you try Thunder Tiger Raptor V2. This helicopter is very popular among learners and experts alike. It can well fit as a good model to learn with and a worthy one to prepare you for more advanced models. Another good model you can use is JR Venture, which is an ARF helicopter, where the radio system and engine need to be assembled.

When you feel, it is time to go for more advanced models of gas powered RC helicopters, think of doing some serious shopping to get what will suit you. You can get advice from experienced model helicopter pilots, before you spend a lot of money. Waste no money on unnecessary parts that are not required. You should also know that flying or even learning how to fly these helicopters is not easy and needs a lot of concentration. It is highly recommended that you get a good instructor to guide you, but if you have exceptional talent and skill, you can learn on your own. It is again strongly recommended that you start learning with an RC flight stimulator that will give you an almost realistic experience, at a low cost and avoid the risk of crashing your expensive helicopter.

Remote Control Helicopters Tips

Flying remote control helicopters is actually harder than it looks. But the good news is, necessary skills can be learned with a little bit of patience and a lot of practice. The following tips are intended to help one in preparing to become a pilot of remote control helicopters.

1. Practice with a simulator first to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of RC flight. While a simulator is not the same as flying an actual helicopter, it can still get you acquainted to controlling remote control helicopters. In addition, a simulator will help you develop the needed reflexes.

2. Seek help from an instructor or experienced flyer. Newbies are very unlikely to set up their helicopter correctly by themselves. Remote control helicopters that have been properly set up perform better. Also, with an instructor by your side, you will have someone to answer your questions. He or she may give you tips and point out your mistakes as well.
