  HUGHES 500 RC HELICOPTERS

Hughes 500 Remote Control Helicopters:

The Hughes 500 RC Helicopter series is one of the world's most popular light turbine helicopters. It's rugged construction, operational performance and reliability puts the Hughes 500 ahead of the competition. Crisp handling and maneuverability combine to make it the favorite of many helicopter pilots.

Hughes 500 RC Helicopter is popular with the too. Hughes won the US Army observation helicopter contest against competition from Bell and Hiller with its Allison 250 powered OH6 Cayuse, which first flew in February 1963.

Hughes 500 R C Helicopters:

One of the world's most successful and useful light turbine helicopters, the Hughes/McDonnell Douglas/Boeing 500 Helicopter series began life in response to a US Army requirement for a light observation helicopter.

Hughes has announced that it was developing a civil version, to be marketed as the Hughes 500 (Hughes Model 369). It was offered in basic five and seven seat configurations, and a 500U, later 500C, utility version with a more powerful engine. From 1976 deliveries were of the 500D, an improved version with a more powerful engine, a T tail, and new five blade main and optional four blade tail rotors.

The 500D was followed by the 500E from 1982 with re-contoured nose and various interior improvements including greater head and leg room. The 530F is a more powerful version optimized for hot and high work.

Hughes RC HelicopterInitially, Hughes TH-55 Osage helicopter, a piston-powered light training helicopter was produced for the United States Army in 1955. It was also produced as the Model 269 family of light utility helicopters, some of which were marketed as the Model 300. The Model 300C was produced and further developed by Schweizer after 1983.

Hughes RC Helicopter 269 was created with a fully articulated, counter-clockwise rotating, three-bladed main rotor, and a two-bladed tail rotor that would remain as distinctive characteristics of all its variants. It also has shock absorber-dampened, skid-type landing gear. The flight controls are directly linked to the control surfaces of the helicopter so there are no hydraulics in the 269. There are generally two sets of controls, although this was optional on the civil 269A. For three-seat aircraft, the middle collective control stick is removable and a seat cushion can be put in its place for the third passenger.

In 1958, prior to full-time production, Hughes provided five pre-production Hughes RC Helicopter Model 269 examples to the U.S. Army for evaluation as a light observation helicopter to replace the aging OH-13 Sioux and OH-23 Raven. Designated as the YHO-2HU the helicopter was eventually turned down. On 9 April 1959, the Hughes RC Helicopter 269 received certification from the FAA and Hughes continued to concentrate on civil production. With some design changes, deliveries of the Model 269A version began in 1961. By mid-1963 about 20 aircraft were being produced a month and by the spring of 1964, Hughes RC Helicopter 314 had been built.
